What specific things will pilates and yoga do for my body?

I%26#039;m sorry I%26#039;ve asked similar things to this a couple times. I didn%26#039;t get very many answers. I was mainly wondering if pilates and yoga can help me loose weight. Thanks!|||Pilates are really good to tone your abs. If you have little fat on your stomach, then those are really good for you so your abs show. But if you want to lose fat, do aerobic exersising like jogging, along with pilates about 2 times a week. Good luck=]|||By Yog asanas, we remove the distortions and disabilities of the physical body and bring it into discipline. However Pranayama influences the subtle and the physical bodies in a greater measure than Yogsanas do and that too in a perceptible manner. In the human body, lungs, heart and brain hold very important positions and they depend on each other heavily for their health.|||Pilates will tone you

I want to start doing some Yoga but which style do i choose?

I know they%26#039;re loads of different styles of Yoga but does it really matter which i choose? i have ADHD and im hyper all the time, getting into trouble and i need to calm myself, i found out Yoga is the best thing for the job. So what would you recommend for me? i plan on doing Yoga for the rest of my life because of the fantastic benefits plus i need to control myself if im to get anywhere in the world, so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated, thank you.|||The descriptions of various styles at following limk may help you get an idea as to what sounds appealing, but don%26#039;t be surprised if there does not happen to be an instructor near you for that particular style.

My own opinion is that finding a teacher you connect with is more important than than individual style, so you may want to sample whatever is available near you.

How do you clean a yoga mat?

well my dogs did a number on my yoga mat and its pretty bad, how am i suppose to clean it?|||Step1

Don%26#039;t share your mat.

This is the first simple rule of avoiding a fungal or bacterial infection from a yoga mat. Buy your own mat and make it exclusively yours. Don%26#039;t share it with anyone. Consider your yoga mat to be as personal as your toothbrush and you%26#039;ll reduce your risk of contracting a nasty foot infection.

Step2

Use your washing machine.

Most people don%26#039;t realize they can clean their mat in the washing machine. Use cold water along with a mild detergent and stop the dryer before it goes through the spin cycle. Once removed from the dryer, lay the mat out to dry completely before storing it. Avoid exposing your mat to heat as this can cause the fibers of the mat to break down.

Step3

Cleaning a slightly soiled mat.

If your mat only has light soiling and doesn%26#039;t require a cycle through the washing machine, you can mix a cup of warm water with several drops of mild detergent to create a dilute, soapy mixture. Use a sponge to gently massage the soiled areas with your homemade solution. Follow up by sponging down with a sponge dampened in warm water. Allow your mat to dry thoroughly.

Step4

Clean it lightly after every use.

To keep your mat looking and smelling fresh, spray it lightly with a mat cleaning spray. To make your own all-natural mat cleaning spray, add three drops of tea tree oil, two drops of peppermint oil, and two drops of lavender oil to distilled water. Mix thoroughly and place the solution in a spray bottle. Spray your mat lightly after every use and wipe it down gently with a damp sponge.

Step5

Have a regular cleaning schedule.

To keep your mat looking and smelling great, have a regular cleaning schedule. In addition to spraying it after every use, place it in the washer every three to four weeks for a more thorough cleansing.

______________|||If your mat is lightly soiled, use a spray bottle, damp sponge, or terry cloth rag to apply a solution of two cups of water and four drops of dish soap. Rub the soiled areas. Wipe the mat with clean water; then rub with a dry terry cloth towel. Hang to air dry.

If your mat is heavily soiled, submerge it in a solution of warm water and mild detergent; use very little soap as any residue may cause the mat to become slippery during future use. Thoroughly hand wash the mat and rinse in clean water. After squeezing out the excess water, lay the mat on a dry towel and roll the mat and towel together. Stepping on the rolled up mat will squeeze more moisture out of the mat and into the towel. Then unroll and hang to air dry.|||Try a solution of 50% white vinegar and 50% water...or...some baking soda and a bit of water.

What's the difference between Yoga and Pilates Classes at the gym?

Yoga principally is against Christian religious beliefs so perhaps pilates would be better.|||yoga is more stretching the muscles. Pilates is strengthening them. I want to start doing Yoga, is this something I would be able to do at home?

WHAT WOULD BE A GOOD WEEKLY YOGA BALANCE?|||20 minutes a day, three or four days a week is about all I can manage. Losing weight isn%26#039;t so much about exercising as it is eating the right foods, however. Eating a diet high in nutritious raw fruits and vegetables will go a lot further than trying to exercise more than you want. It%26#039;s much easier, too. Look into the diets linked at the bottom of the page. Here%26#039;s my weightloss blog:

Here’s all you need to lose weight all over, look good, and get really healthy. First, you have to realize there is no quick, long lasting weight loss plan or pill that is going to do the trick. It’s purely mental. You have to learn to “Eat to live, don’t live to eat”. Sounds simple, doesn’t it? It is, if you understand that you are going to be reprogramming how you think about eating for the next few weeks. Old habits die hard, right? Not really. You get rid of bad habits by replacing them with good habits. If you learn to count your calories, keep calorie intake lower than output, exercise moderately, and eat only healthy food, you will lose weight. That’s a fact. All it takes is repetition. All success stories have this in common: The successful folks among us know how to be patient, persistent, and consistent. Set a goal, write it down, and stick with it. The benefits of feeling good will outweigh any sense of sacrifice you might feel about having to push away that cake and ice cream. I found a web page that lists approximate calories burned for different types of yoga, so am supplying you that link:

http://www.elysiumyoga.com/cals.html

Keep in mind that if you do want to burn calories, then you should employ some type of cardio into your workout. While calorie burning is not high on the list of benefits from yoga, there are many more benefits above and beyond that, as I%26#039;m sure you are noticing as you continue your practice. Keep up the yoga just as you are doing, but maybe start employing a 15 minute run each day, or every other day, or some other vigorous exercise that gets and keeps your heart rate up and your body sweating. What are the most productive exercises to do with a yoga ball?

I have a yoga ball and know a few exercises to do with it, but I%26#039;m looking for more. Mainly I want to work on my stomach, butt, and legs. any ideas?|||You might try ab exercises such as: super slow set of crunches where you put your hands behind head, arms out to the sides, low back on the ball and lift each vertebra off the ball one by one until you%26#039;re in the sit up position then do the same all the way back down to the floor. Barely stop at the top and at the bottom. Keep in constant motion. Do these to fatigue. Followed by 2 sets of alternating obliques where you take each elbow and go to the opposite side. Being careful to again lift each vertebra off the floor one by one. And, concentrate on making a smooth arc in the air with your elbow then alternate sides. No matter how far you get you will have worked both sides.

I also like the pushups on the ball. Get into the %26quot;plank%26quot; pose with you front thighs on the ball. Make you body a %26quot;stiff plank%26quot; and then walk out a little with your hands the do a pushup. This is a great way to burn calories, work your core muscles and arms! More for less time!

Best of luck to you....|||you can do standard crunches or lay on your stomach on the ball and walk your hands out so your body is parallel to the floor and you are holding yourself up with your hands and your knees on all the ball then press your butt up while keeping your legs straight. this will work your stomach. i like to do this one at home because i feel like i look silly, but it really works!!

Also, I%26#039;d like to know some of the health benefits of doing yoga regularly. Is it true that it helps your body get rid of toxins?

Thanks!|||Yoga helps stimulate various glands, like your lymph nodes, which do help your body properly process out all the junk in your body.

As for your joints, it%26#039;s because they%26#039;re weak. Make sure that you are doing the poses correctly, and adjust them if you need to. Your body will adjust, just keep at it.|||My mom takes yoga. She is turning 50 soon. She loves it. It calms her down and allows her a better frame of mind to deal with my brothers (who can be quite a hassle sometimes). It is great exercise for her, she also runs a lot and her yoga has really improved her running. It lengthens the muscles and creates power in the core (solar plexus) which is key for running, standing up straight, and supporting your back. You really shouldn%26#039;t experience joint pain from yoga. It%26#039;s all about muscles. Try changing the way you breathe while you%26#039;re doing it, and definitely try not to lock your joints. I would suggest going to a beginner class where the instructors can offer constructive criticism to your positions and style. That way you can make sure what you%26#039;re doing is helping your body, and not hurting it. No pain, no gain does not apply to yoga at all. It%26#039;s all about relaxing, finding an inner calm, and strengthening your muscles to support you in ways that most people can%26#039;t. Good luck with that!|||wel i do not know much about yoga but check out some websites like yoga.com or google it.

What qualities do you look for in a good yoga teacher?

I am currently enrolled in a training and certification program, and thought I%26#039;d ask some opinions. What do you like/dislike about teachers? In a general, eclectic session, do you place importance more on meditation/breathing or fitness? What are some bad habits you have seen before, and what did the best yoga teacher you ever had do that was so special?|||Well, of course knowledge and experience.

Once you%26#039;ve experienced a knowledgeable teacher, it%26#039;s usually apparent when others try to %26#039;wing it%26#039;.

I like that my teacher has her own teacher, even after many years of herself being a teacher. I like her attitude that she will always be a student herself, with more to learn.

I%26#039;ve chosen her as my main teacher specifically because she does teach asana, some pranayama, %26amp; occasionally meditation (I know she keeps a regular meditation practice in addition to her asana practice), but I know many others seek a teacher of only the physical practice, and have no interest in the yamas, niyamas, or other limbs.

A sense of humor is always good. Remembering that it%26#039;s only yoga, not life or death.

If I may add to that I%26#039;d like to say that when I did my yoga teacher training a few years ago, I had unlimited free yoga classes included in my tuition.......so I went to as many different classes with as many different teachers as possible. While most of the experiences were wonderful, there were a few negative ones which stood out.

I had complimented one of the best teachers I experienced a class with. Their response was, %26quot;I am only passing on things I have learned from all my different teachers and you will do the same.%26quot; The students being able to respect you, yet staying humble is an important trait.

When I teach, especially when I see a student struggling with a certain pose, I try to mention how I too am struggling with certain poses. It%26#039;s finding that fine line on being gentle, yet challenging students to the best of their abilites.

I have attended classes where the teacher did nothing but sit at the front of the class-no demonstrations, no adjustments, and I did not like it. I felt as if she didn%26#039;t care about us.

Here are things I like about yoga classes/teachers:

Starting class on time

A nice and guided meditation

Adequate time for a warm-up

Clear explanation/demonstration of asana-saying the name is both English and Sanskrit if possible

Adjustments(even verbal ones) when needed

Challenging the student without pushing too hard

A good sequence of poses

A nice long savasana

Patience

Respecting all students as equal

Some things I have disliked about teaches/classes:

One teacher had really bad hygiene(B.O.)

When they fool around too much with the music-I just bring my Ipod and speakers and put it on shuffle.

When they tend to focus too much on one student who is having trouble and then the student is self-conscious

When their voice does not project

When they are talking way too much where it is distracting to the students

I know I%26#039;ve been rambling but I hope it helped.

Namaste!

Is it okay to take a yoga class tonight if I'm still sore from a previous workout?

Yesterday was my first day back to the gym in a few months, and my arms, chest, shoulders, and thighs are pretty sore. I was thinking of taking a yoga class tonight, however, I%26#039;ve been reading that you should not work sore muscles. Would Yoga be considered inappropriate even though it mostly consists of stretching?|||Your running the risk of injury, but if your sure you won%26#039;t get injured (for example falling because of a weak and sore muscle) then it is ok. Yoga as an example can cause the muscles to be tighter as a counter reaction to being doubley fatigued and stretched. I%26#039;d say though if you warm up and take it easy yoga would be a great idea after working out in the morning.|||although yoga consists of stretching, it is also a workout.

i wouldn%26#039;t say that it would be bad because it would help with those sore muscles. it would help stretch and align.

also, if any of the poses get too difficult, you can always rest or do the child pose until you are ready to move on.

i used to swim and feel really sore and the next day i would do yoga and it would really help with sore muscles.|||I doubt it%26#039;ll be a problem, just don%26#039;t overdo it, once you warm up usually you%26#039;ll probably find the soreness will go away. Overall take it easy however I doubt one session of yoga will do you any harm and the soreness should be gone by the next day.|||The stretching will help. Also, I%26#039;m not sure where this not working out when you%26#039;re sore came from, but it sure inhibits your progress. I mean, if you can barely move, maybe, but other than that it%26#039;s fine.|||depends on your body...if you are sore you might just really need a good streching. If you go to Yoga just don%26#039;t overdue it...take it slow and do what you can.|||I think yoga would be good. I think it will be very relaxing and it%26#039;ll actually end up helping with your soreness and flexibility and make your body stronger for your next work out.|||go do yoga, whenever i have sore muscles i do a few strethches, and it works great! Hope i helped!|||no if you are sore from a previous workout and you need to wait for the sore to go away|||If you%26#039;re sore you should probably sit this one out.|||I think it%26#039;d be fine, and if you feel more pain than usual then stop.|||Just stretch first if pain becomes worse than don%26#039;t go.|||You shouldn%26#039;t do it, or else tomorrow you won%26#039;t be able to move. Rest for a day or two.|||yoga should stretch you out %26amp; make you feel better(:

What are the different styles of yoga and what do they focus on?

I know there is a type for weight loss and such, and I was wondering what are all of the different styles of yoga and what do they do for the body?

All I know when it comes to terminology is hatha, and I%26#039;m not even sure what that does lol. I don%26#039;t know the terms so if someone could explain those too I%26#039;d appreciate it.

I%26#039;m really interested to know if any type of yoga can give outer (as well as inner) strength and stamina. If there is such a thing could you please tell me more?

Thanks in advance!|||I%26#039;ve never come across a list of Hatha yoga styles that claimed to be complete, but here are a couple longer lists I%26#039;ve seen.

You mentioned seeking inner strength, so you may want to be aware that the practice of the physical postures (asana) is a small component of the complete yogic path as it originated in India.

In the Western hemisphere, many students are only interested in achieving the physical health benefits that regular asana practice can bring.

Therefore, frequently that is the limit to which it is taught by many Western teachers.

In India, yoga meant much more than only practicing asana;

Asana was meant to be practiced in conjunction with other yogic practices as a holistic path to develop a person%26#039;s full human potential (self-realization).

You may find the answer by %26quot;rhwyogi%26quot; here of interest: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

I recommend you learn as much as you can about the different styles and try to determine what you wish to learn.

Then investigate whether a teacher in that style is available near you.

You may find there is not a teacher for every style readily available to you.

In my opinion, finding a teacher you relate to well is somewhat more important than the style.

Best wishes.

What are the first steps I need to take to start a yoga clothing line?

I have great ideas for a yoga clothing line, I%26#039;ve got the name, designs and business cards , now what? I am not a business person. Do I take my designs to a clothing factory and have them make me samples? Then take the samples I had made to yoga studios and clothing conventions to sell?|||first, you%26#039;ll need about 6 miles of rebar. take a set of gardening shears, four pillow cases and a bottle of floda. mix the floda with instant concrete and pour into the pillow cases. set these aside, they will be used later.

now, with the gardening shears, start cutting 4 foot sections of rebar. insert the cut sections, four at a time, into the pillow cases of concrete/floda.

you%26#039;ll be doing yoga in no time.|||1. Find yourself a mentor.

2. Do nothing with your designs until you have professional advice.

3. Go work for a sports retailer. Learn from the ground up for 6 months. Competition is really tough out there.

4. Take your time, if you rush in, you%26#039;ll get burned and probably very upset

5. Start calling yourself and thinking of yourself as a business person - no-one will deal with you if you don%26#039;t

6. You need a business plan to take to investors (or the bank) to show how you will make money. Just preparing this will force you to answers all the questions that you should be asking like:

a) Who can make these items? Locally and globally

b) how much will they cost me including freight and duty if applicable?

c) for how many?

d) what will distribution costs and other overheads amount to?

e) how much will get spolied and stolen?

e2) what if they are defective?

f) who am I selling to? Businesses to resell or retail customers directly? Where do these people live, what demograpic profile do they have?

g) what makes me different from Reebok or any other established Yoga clothing seller? Why would people choose me? How do I educate them about this Unique Selling Point?

h) How much will I be able to sell them for? How many can I sell?

i) Will that make me enough money (after you buy the computer, new vehicle (image is important), offices, warehousing, secretary, website, hotel accomodation, brochures, travel to manufacturing sites and conventions) to live off?

j) Who will buy my company when I%26#039;m tired of running it myself.

k) How long until I begin to make a profit and where does the investment come from until then? Can I afford to/ am I prepared to put everything that I own on the line?

Just a few of the questions that you absolutely need to answer before you spend a penny on production.

What are the best introductions to yoga and/or belly dance?

I want to get started in Yoga, how do i start and is it a good workout?

I%26#039;d like to lose some weight and also get alittle toned. I am planning on starting some cardio but also was interested in yoga. Is yoga a good work out? What does it mostly impact? How do i get started? Are there any workout videos or equipment you%26#039;d recommend? Thanks!|||Here you can Find all about yoga|||Along with the cardio, Yoga is a very good work out. It%26#039;s a form of strength training that builds lean muscle rather than bulky muscle. It will definitely give you good tonation, but the muscles will be long and lean--more like a runners. The moves impact all of your muscles if you do a full session, but you can pick and choose moves as well. Many moves work on your core muscles because those are the muscles needed for good posture and a good center of balance--good balance and good posture also make you appear leaner. I would recommend signing up for a beginners yoga class that has sessions a few times a week. They are usually fairly inexpensive in comparison to gym memberships. If you don%26#039;t like that plan, there are also several at-home yoga videos you can follow as well. Many yoga places offer a free trial class, I would recommend going just to make sure your posture is correct for all of the poses--if it is not, they will be less effective. The only equipment yoga requires is a yoga mat for some padding. How long does it take approximately if I practice every day for two hours....For how long should one practice in a day?|||I think within one month you will see a significant different. How many yoga sessions will I need before I can try advanced poses?

I%26#039;d say right now I%26#039;m somewhere between beginner and intermediate... My long-term goal is to do the Firefly and Scorpion poses. Not just because they look fun, but because the Scorpion is supposed to give you the deepest stretch through the neck and spine. How long will I need to practice yoga before moving toward these advanced poses?|||I%26#039;m not an expert, but I believe it really matters how often you practice, how long your practice is, now intensive it is, and what poses you are practicing. If you really want to know, ask an instructor for advice on how to work toward those poses, and then you can also ask them how long they think it might take you to achieve the full pose.

I believe every pose is different for everyone. What might take me 6 months to learn to do, it may take someone else two years, as all bodies are aligned differently, have different needs, and abilities vary so widely. Someone may have an alignment issue they didn%26#039;t realize they had, and they have to work on that for a year or more to get proper alignment before they can move into a certain pose.

I think what you ought to do is work gently toward the pose, and don%26#039;t focus on the goal. Focus on where you are now, not where you will be in the future. Yoga is about focusing on the Now moment, so try practicing that every day.

Don%26#039;t worry about when, instead, think more toward learning to be in the moment, and learning to listen to what your body needs to be stronger, more flexible, and healthy.

Namaste`

:)|||For how long you will have to ask yourself that question some people are naturally gifted at yoga and are able to more advance poses. No one else can tell you that is so many years or days you will be doing the postures that you have mentioned; you have to listen to your body and see where you are at, and if you are able to do these postures. Are you practicing head stands, hand stands, plow or any poses that are a lot of upper body strengthening? I would suggest to try them gradually if you are able and to strengthen your upper body.

That would be something I would suggest as a yoga teacher but I would much more rather give you a private yoga class. Try to get a private yoga class in your area that is the safest way to do those poses.

How To Yoga Help To achieve Ultimate Satisfaction Within Self Imposition?

Many people think applying yoga help to stimulate more energy for healing purposes. How far can that be true. Any answers, awaiting for it.|||I recommend you read the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali to understand the goals of yoga (union). They were written approximately 2200 years ago by the Sage Patanjali.

You can find translations online, from the original Sanskrit. See below for a link to my favorite translation of the Yoga Sutras.

Then find a good yoga teacher, attend class as often as possible, and practice yoga every day on your own, wherever you are each day. One can do yoga anywhere.

There are 8 limbs to yoga, as explained in the Yoga Sutras.

The first limb is Yamas, which are restraints.

There are five of them:

not stealing, not lying, non-violence, not lusting (this does not necessarily mean chastity), and non-attachment.

The second limb is Niyamas, which are observances.

There are also five of them:

cleanliness, contentment, discipline, self-study, and surrender to the Supreme (all one).

The third limb is Asana, which means posture, or pose. This will help to build a strong body, a vehicle for enjoying life.

The fourth limb is Pranayama, which means breath control, or rather awareness of the breath.

The fifth limb is Pratyahara, to bring the senses within. This is preparation for meditation.

The sixth limb is Dharana, meditation on an object or person.

The seventh limb is Dhyana, to become one with the object or person focused on in meditation. Full integration with the object or person focused on in meditation is achieved.

The eighth limb is Samadhi. Full integration is achieved with all. There are other states above this.

Is it ok to do Yoga when pregnant even during the first trimester?

My girlfriend wants to do yoga but we don%26#039;t know if it%26#039;s ok to do it and when- we know pregnancy yoga is good.|||Yoga -- with modifications -- is a wonderful activity for most pregnant women. Please advise your girlfriend to check with her physician that yoga is appropriate for her.

If your girlfriend is cleared to begin/continue a yoga practice during her pregnancy, there are several things she should take into consideration:

1. If your girlfriend was not practicing yoga regularly prior to her pregnancy, it is advisable that she not begin a new practice during weeks 11 to 14 of her pregnancy. (This is due to an increased risk of miscarriage during these weeks which may be exacerbated by the commencement of new physical exercise activities at this time.)

2. Pregnant women produce a hormone called relaxin which helps to stretch and relax the pelvis to make room for the baby. It also works on connective tissue elsewhere in the body. Pregnant women must take special care to practice GENTLE stretching as it is easy for them to overstretch and strain muscles during this time.

3. The growing baby needs room. Therefore pregnant women are advised to avoid poses which compress the abdomen. Twists should be performed to the open side, a wide-legged stance adopted for forward folding poses and prone (lying on the belly) positions avoided. The general rule of thumb is to practice these modifications throughout the second and third trimesters of pregnancy -- but every woman%26#039;s body is different. Your girlfriend%26#039;s own comfort level is the best indicator of when she needs to start following these modifications.

4. The growing baby takes up room -- and pushes on the mother%26#039;s body to do so. Pregnant women are generally advised not to lie supine (on their backs) after the first trimester as the baby%26#039;s weight can press on the vena cava when in this posture and adversely affect blood pressure.

5. Lowered blood pressure and an altered centre of gravity affect a woman%26#039;s sense of balance during pregnancy. For this reason, special care should be taken during balancing postures and women should move into and out of poses slowly (no jumping!). Pregnant women can widen their base of support in standing poses by widening their stance. During the later stages of pregnancy, your girlfriend may want to keep both feet on the ground during balancing poses. (The weight can be shifted to the standing leg without completely lifting the second foot.) Again, your girlfriend%26#039;s own body will be the best indicator of when to start making these modifications.

6. If your girlfriend is participating in instructor-led classes, she should inform her instructor before class that she is pregnant. This will notify the instructor that she or he needs to give suitable pregnancy modifications throughout the class.

7. There is no one standardized school of thought, training or certification for yoga instructors. Neither have there been any large scale scientific studies done on the effects of specific yoga postures on pregnant women or their babies. Your girlfriend may encounter one instructor who tells her a certain pose is fine to do during pregnancy and another who will say that pose is a definite no-no. Both instructors are simply teaching best practices as they understand them from their own yoga traditions. It is important for your girlfriend to consult multiple sources and to make informed decisions for herself regarding what is right for her.

8. Above all, yoga practitioners need to learn to listen to their own bodies and be guided by how they are feeling and responding to the poses. This is true throughout all stages of pregnancy -- and for the rest of us as well!

Here are a couple of good links for further information on yoga and pregnancy:

The stretching and strengthening of muscles would help in allowing an adjustment to %26quot;hold%26quot; for longer if the exercises are done correctly. Performing exercises improperly or over-doing it could have the reverse effect. I hope this helps.|||Yoga in one of its parts is a slow, controlled method of ensuring body health. How can yoga burn calories. As it is said that its good for tackling obesity?

I know doing exercises such as jogging, cycling burns calories because unless we burn calories we wont become slim.

But how can yoga burn calories.|||Any exertion burns more calories than just sitting. How many calories you burn per minute or per hour depends on the intensity of the activity. The more intense, the more you burn per minute. But also, the more intense, the less likely that you will be able to do it for very long.

Yoga can be mild, moderate or vigorous. The more vigorous, the more calories you will burn.

But keep this in mind, it is great for your body no matter how many calories you burn.

And as you become more fit, you will be able to sustain greater intensity for a longer period and burn even more calories.

Best of health and fitness!|||i don%26#039;t know much.

but i personally bought a cd from Ram Dev for weight loss %26amp; i tried those simple assans (postures) %26amp; u will not believe me i lost 8 kg%26#039;s within 5 months.

How longdoes it take to become stretchy and flexible with yoga?

Hi! Just started yoga a couple of weeks ago and I have seen that some of the asanas are hard to do because I am not flexible...I wanted to know if anyone have had the smae problems and if there are any tips to help with the flexibility...how long does it take to become flexible, and are the yoga asanas possible at all for someone that has never been flexible or stretchy before?|||You can%26#039;t put getting flexible in a time frame. It depends on genetics, how often you practice, what type of yoga you practice, etc.

What I can say is that you will get more flexible. No doubt about it. Don%26#039;t give up because of lack of flexibility. Your body will adjust.

Does everyone get flexible enough to do all asanas? No. Many times it is your skeletal structure that limits your movements ultimately (See Paul Grilley%26#039;s DVD Anatomy and Asana). I will personally never bend backward and touch my head to my butt.... or even do a wheel pose with my elbows straight. My shoulder joint just isn%26#039;t shaped that way. But I am still getting more flexible in other areas and I can do poses now I couldn%26#039;t do a year ago (like cow%26#039;s face without a strap).

Having said that, there is probably a long way to go for you before you run into your skeletal limits.

What you can do, first of all is to stop comparing yourself to other people. You work with your body and your body is as it is. Try to stay unfrustrated.

Secondly, if you want to get more flexible as quickly as possible do the following: Mark in class which poses are hard to do. Maybe ask your teacher what muscles need to stretch for those and if she can recommend stretches. Or else take note of stretches that seem to come not so easy in class. Do these stretches at home every day (preferably after a little warm up, either yoga or some cardio, biking or running). Bring your body into a GENTLE stretch, try to find the edge between comfortable and uncomfortable and hold it just on the comfortable side of that edge. NEVER EVER stretch so deep it hurts! Hold each stretch for at least two minutes. Shorter stretches may release tension in the muscle, but they do not contribute to lengthening the muscle! While you stretch breathe slowly and encourage the muscles to release and relax. If within those two minutes you feel the stretch diminishing (without moving the body part), go on and move a little deeper into it, again until you find that edge. If one side of the body is tighter than the other, spend a little longer on the tighter side.

You%26#039;ll be amazed at the progress you make in few months. And you%26#039;ll be amazed at how much easier your daily activities are going to be when you are more flexible.

Don%26#039;t ever be afraid to ask your yoga teacher for advice!|||Your not gonna get there overnight. It may take years or months if your lucky. But be sure to practice everyday, its healthy.
